Henry Melchior Muhlenberg House

Upper Providence Township, Tappe & Collegeville Borough, Montgomery County

Henry Muhlenberg House, at 201 W. Main Street in Trappe, has been restored to the period of 1776 when Henry Melchior Muhlenberg resided there. It reflects the lifestyle of the Muhlenberg family. Muhlenberg's Journal has provided a wealth of information. Of particular interest are the roles his sons, Peter and Frederick, play during the Revolutionary War and in forming our nation.

The exterior renovation was completed in 1995. In 2000, the house was included in the National Register of Historic Places after years of community participation and support in purchasing and preserving this site at a cost of over a million dollars.

The Visitors Center adjacent to the Henry Muhlenberg House provides a starting point for tours, offering rest rooms and a gift shop. A typical Colonial Garden is a point of interest at the rear of the house. The grounds are the site of the annual Heritage Day event.
