b'RESOURCEPROTECTIONHeritage Conservancys staff and wonderful volunteers safeguard our important natural and historic resources throughout the year. Stewardship is everyones responsibility, and our environment needs your support. To get involved, visit the Volunteer sectionof our website.Heritage Conservancy is thrilled to share that in 2020, the Quakertown Swamp received the international designation as a Wetland of Distinction by the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS), currently making it one of only two areas in Pennsylvania to receive this recognition. This program recognizesthe Worlds most valuable wetland ecosystems. According to SWS, in order to be eligible for designation, it must: be listed on more than one valuable wetland list by natural resource agencies or nongovernment organizations; protect biologically diverse wetland flora, fauna and/or their habitat; and support significant numbers of wetland-dependent fauna, such as water birds or fish. Quakertown Swamp meets all of these qualifications! Because of community support throughout the decades, the Quakertown Swamp has continued to flourish despite adversity (i.e. fragmentation). This recognitionis a reminder to everyone that we are fortunate to have this significantnatural resource and that it is deserving of protection. This story wascovered widely; Channel 69 News even interviewed us about it! Heritage Conservancy protects and maintains historic Aldie Mansion, which is part of the Mercer legacy in Bucks County. Along with serving as the Conservancys home, the mansion is also rentedas a wedding and special events venue that generates revenue and benefits our mission. Becauseof this, it is important to keep the mansion looking beautiful. In the spring and fall, we hosted many staff and volunteer cleanup days that were truly transformative. Thankfully, these activities allowedfor social distancing while enjoying the benefits of gardening and being outside. 14'
