SUMMARY:Fridays in the Forest Workday: Hart's Woods
DESCRIPTION:Project: Join us for invasive plant management! We’ve applied for another riparian forest buffer grant and must clear invasive shrubs from along the stream in preparation for another planting. Winged euonymus (a.k.a. burning bush or flame bush) has grown in profusion along the stream\, and many years of dedicated management continues as we cut and paint the stumps with herbicide and create brush piles with the slash for wildlife.\n\nWork level: Moderate to strenuous\nTools: Hand saws and loppers\nTime: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nRegister: Register with Melissa Lee at mlee@heritageconservancy.org or 215-345-7020 x 120

SUMMARY:Fridays in the Forest Workday: Fuller-Pursell Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Project: Garlic mustard was first found on Long Island\, NY\, in 1868\, and was brought here from Europe as a food and medicinal source. The roots from this plant secrete chemicals that inhibit the growth of soil fungi which are essential for connecting seedlings to the forest network of roots from older trees. Additionally\, garlic mustard’s abundant seed production allows for the plant to quickly spread throughout the forest and outcompete our native wildflowers for resources. We will be pulling this pernicious weed and bagging it for removal from the property.\n\nWork level: Easy\nTools: Gloves\nTime: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nRegister: Register with Melissa Lee at mlee@heritageconservancy.org or 215-345-7020 x 120
