The Five Mile Woods Preserve: A History is four hundred and ten pages in length and has more than 100 illustrations. It tells the story of the Preserve beginning with its geological past, through the efforts to create a nature preserve in 1979, and to the activities that led to the 35th anniversary of its opening last year. It tells the story of a community triumph to protect what is important.
The book was commissioned by former Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors member Donald Formigli, who was the originator of the idea to create the Preserve. He oversaw its acquisition in the late 1970s and its opening to the public in 1981. There is a section in the book written by Heritage Conservancy’s President, Jeffrey L. Marshall.
