Butterfly Bonanza
Take flight into the fascinating world of butterflies! Join Heritage Conservancy staff on September 19th at Russell Mandel Preserve for a hands-on butterfly survey where you’ll learn how to safely catch and identify butterfly species found right here in our region.
Heritage Conservancy staff will also be tagging any monarch butterflies we encounter as part of a larger community science effort to track their incredible fall migration. Each tagged monarch helps researchers determine the pathways taken by migrating monarchs, the influence of weather on migration, and survival rates along the way. Your participation contributes to real conservation science!
After the survey, stick around for family-friendly butterfly activities perfect for curious naturalists of all ages. Whether you’re a seasoned nature lover or a first-time butterfly watcher, this is a great opportunity to get outside, get curious, and connect with the pollinators that keep our ecosystems thriving!
