Join us for a special opportunity exclusively offered to Heritage Conservancy Members at our very own picturesque Russell-Mandel Preserve. This unique experience will provide a behind-the-scenes peek into how Heritage Conservancy and our community scientists are tracking bat populations in the wake of White Nose-Syndrome.
After a tour around the preserve, taking in the gardens and the grounds, you will experience Heritage Conservancy’s Community Science volunteer team conducting a count of our resident bats as they emerge from the property’s barn at dusk. This colony has been monitored for multiple years, and we hope to see a population increase in this year’s bat count. Join us for the grand reveal!
Additionally, Tyler Kovacs, Heritage Conservancy’s Conservation Steward, will provide a short presentation about bats, their conservation, and what people can do to help them. We will take a look at artificial bat boxes and learn more about creating habitats to help our local wildlife.
Beer, wine, and light refreshments will be included during the tour.
Guests should arrive at 7:15 for registration/to grab a drink for the tour
Tour begins at 7:30
Bat count will begin right around 8:30
$15 per person
