Batty for Bats and Other Wildlife
October 27, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$15 – $25Come in costume to historic Aldie Mansion, see wild animals from AARK Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, learn about bats, and enjoy crafts and games! There will be a costume contest, activities, and trick-or-treating in the mansion. Child supervision is required.
Batty for Bats is a chance for us to communicate the results of our summer bat counts with the public. We also gather that information and report it to the Pennsylvania Game Commission to help them monitor bat populations. The Indiana Bat (a PA bat species) is a federally endangered species, and the Northern long-eared bat is a threatened species. One of the most significant threats bats face is habitat loss. Our preservation efforts help to support bats by protecting the habitat and structures where they roost, hibernate, and find food. Bats eat mosquitoes and are very important for controlling their populations!
