Fall 2022 Mushroom Hike at Hart’s Woods Nature Preserve
October 9, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$25.00Do you ever wonder about the mushrooms you come across locally? Are they poisonous? What value do they provide to us? To our environment? Which mushrooms you can eat?
Join Heritage Conservancy and Luke Smithson, Head Chef at Jamie Hollander Catering & Events, on a hike to identify wild edible mushrooms. Luke will lead us through Hart’s Woods Nature Preserve–a mature forest that was inducted into the nationwide Old Growth Forest Network in 2019–and answer the questions you have always had about the mushrooms we find along the way. After, enjoy a light picnic lunch!
Get to know Luke: Luke is an amateur field mycologist and citizen scientist with over 25 years of collecting and identifying mushrooms. He is a past president and the current Education Chair of the New Jersey Mycological Association and the FunDiS (Fungal Diversity Survey) project leader for the Philadelphia Mycology Club. His fungal passions lay in taxonomy and identifying lesser-known (and occasionally unknown!) mushroom species, as well as foraging for delicious edible mushrooms.
Recommended for ages 12 and up (child must be accompanied by an adult). This event is limited to the first 25 participants. Pre-register by filling out the form below.
Please note that limited shoulder parking is available along the road leading up to the entrance of Hart’s Woods Nature Preserve (375 New Britain Road, Doylestown, PA). Additional parking is available at the Central Park parking lot (331 New Britain Road, Doylestown, PA).
