Fridays in the Forest Workday: Quakertown Swamp
March 17, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Project: Join us for this week’s Fridays in the Forest workday at Quakertown Swamp for forest edge maintenance. Where the forest meets the meadow, known as an ecotone, is prime habitat for species such as indigo buntings and cedar wax wings, along with a plethora of other species. A wavy forest edge provides more habitat by linear foot than a straight forest edge; therefore, we will be selectively cutting back portions of the encroaching forest to allow certain encroachments to continue. We will also be working on maintaining shrubland habitat by cutting out excessive trees that are trying to overtake the field, using chainsaws, brush cutters, and hand saws.
Work level: Easy to moderate
Tools: Loppers and clippers
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Register: Register with Melissa Lee at mlee@heritageconservancy.org or 215-345-7020 x 120
