Land Conservation & Stewardship

Heritage Conservancy works with communities, landowners, businesses, and governments to ensure that the landscapes that make our region special endure and flourish, for the benefit of people and nature. We protect more than 16,000 acres of open space, farmland, wildlife habitat, and important watershed areas throughout Bucks, Montgomery, and Northampton counties.

Heritage Conservancy is a nationally accredited Land Trust and maintains multiple nature preserves (public and private) around Bucks County.

Conserve Your Property

Heritage Conservancy works with private owners and municipalities to preserve land through conservation easements, voluntary legal agreements that permanently restrict certain uses and activities in order to protect the conservation values associated with the property’s natural resources and wildlife habitat.

We hold conservation easements on more than 250 properties in Bucks, Montgomery, and Northampton Counties, and we have helped facilitate over 100 more. We safeguard resources like water quality, farmland, scenic views, and habitats and ensure land is permanently protected in perpetuity.

Municipal Partnerships

Conservation easements can also be placed on public lands, like local parks, to ensure that natural and recreational lands remain open to the community. Heritage Conservancy holds conservation easements on public lands and is called upon by local municipalities to help preserve and protect open spaces. We consult with townships and local governments on planning, land protection, and advocacy.

Public Nature Preserves

Natural Resource Protection Heritage Conservancy owns and manages approximately 1,500 acres of land, including farmland and fragile habitats. Several of our nature preserves offer public access, including hiking trails and open spaces. We also host public events and community science programs on these grounds to track local plants and wildlife.

We encourage people to get outdoors and explore nature on our Bucks County preserves. Come visit! Walk the woodland trails, bring your binoculars for birding, and enjoy the forest!

Stewardship

Conservation at its best is active — not passive. It entails removing invasive species, planting native plants and trees, building riparian buffers, and making other improvements to support wildlife habitat, pollination, and the natural balance of the land. We own and manage about 1,500 acres of land, including farmland and fragile habitats.

We actively steward the properties we own and work to help private landowners manage their own conserved land sustainably.

Land Resources

We share resources to help land owners understand what natural features and conservation values make their land special. We offer educational information and periodic classes on how best to steward land and natural resources for a sustainable future.
