Technical Assistance
Overview
The Conservancy’s 50 years of experience in conservation in eastern Pennsylvania has provided a wealth of information on both processes and results, which we share with other organizations throughout the region. Through technical assistance programs on a range of conservation issues, the Conservancy takes from its successes and failures the knowledge of how best to achieve conservation goals. Our staff experts work closely with organizations on issues of importance to them, from land acquisition to policy change, or any other topic.
Methods
Our technical assistance typically is offered to municipalities and municipal decision-makers, but is also extended to watershed organizations, non-profits focused on historic resources, and similar organizations. While other land trusts focus on developing singular events or workshops to communicate issues at a broad scale to as many people as possible, Heritage Conservancy focuses on long-term assistance to individual organizations where improvements and action are most likely to occur. By identifying and working closely with these select few, we can best apply limited conservation funding in areas where substantive action is most likely. Several key areas of expertise for the Conservancy include (a) land acquisition and conservation, (b) stormwater management, (c) municipal ordinance reviews, (c) business and strategic planning, (d) historic resource management, and (e) property stewardship.
Project Highlight
Non-point Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO) is a nationally recognized program of technical assistance to municipalities on non-point source pollution. In southeastern Pennsylvania, this usually means working on stormwater issues. Heritage Conservancy is the lead organization in Pennsylvania for the NEMO program and has worked with municipalities in several counties.
